Alzheimer's/Dementia Disease is a progressive brain disease that damages and destroys brain cells. This disease is progressive, irreversible and is not exclusive to seniors, as it can strike those much younger. Alzheimer affects ones’ memory, judgment, changes in thinking, reasoning, behaviours, emotions and other cognitive functions. Alzheimer is seen as the worst form of dementia because it develops slowly and gets worst as brain function declines. However not ALL MEMORY LAPSES SHOULD BE SEEN AS DEMENTIA-BRAIN DECLINE.
Research from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida recently identified a deficit in a brain signaling pathway that they believe may play a contributing role in the developing of Alzheimer's Disease. Dr. Guojun Bu, says the defect is related to an over-production of Toxin Protein and loss of communication between neurons. Dr. Bu further claims that the united States alone has more than five million people with Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer's and Dementia disease are still a mystery. Alzheimer’s and Dementia disease are often used interchangeably. According to the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Dementia is a brain disorder that affects communication and performance of daily activities, that is your activities of daily living (ADL) e.g taking a shower, eat etc. Alzhemier’s disease is a form of dementia that specifically affects parts of the brain that control thought, memory and language.
Dementia on the other hand is seen as an umbrella term for a set of symptoms causing impaired thinking and memory or cognitive decline of aging. According to the Center for Disease Control, Alzhemier’s disease is a common cause of dementia causing as many as 50 to 70% of all dementia cases. In fact the Centre also sees Alzheimer’s as a very specific form of dementia. Symptoms of Alzheimer's include impaired thought ,impaired speech and confusion. Some causes of Dementia are Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Creutzfeldt –Jakob disease.
ALL MEMORY LAPSES SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS DEMENTIA BRAIN DECLINE.
